Where To Buy An All Terrain Hoverboard?

black off road All terrain hoverboards (also known as self balancing scooters) have become extremely popular in recent years with both adults and children alike. Suitable for children age approximately 8+ (the minimum weight needed to successfully control the board is usually about 40lbs) up to adults of all ages, they’re a great way to get around and are a lot of fun to use. In this article we’re going to take a look at how much they cost, why you should buy one, and where to buy.

What is an all terrain hoverboard?

Basically it works just like a normal self balancing scooter – you stand on the board and ride by tilting your body slightly to move backwards or forwards. However, instead of only being suitable for smooth ground such as pavement, it can travel over a wide variety of terrains including sand, snow, grass, gravel and more. This makes it much more versatile for all ages to use. It’s usually bigger, with more powerful engines, more durable build, and tires suited to a variety of terrains.

How much is an all-terrain hoverboard?

The first thing to know is that they’re more expensive than the basic models that are now on sale for as little as $150. On average you can expect to pay anything from about $300 – $500 for a good off road model (check out our top picks here: https://www.bestelectricrides.com/best-off-road-hoverboards-all-terrain.

You may wonder is it worth paying so much extra for a ride that’s relatively similar to the cheaper ones. In my opinion, the extra investment is a no brainer – here’s why:

  • Stronger, more durable build means that you’ll get years of riding fun out of one of these
  • Suited to most terrains – you’re not just confined to the back yard. Take it on holidays, to the beach or to the park.
  • More water resistant – although an all terrrain hoverboard won’t be fully waterproof, they are usually more water resistant than their cheaper counterparts so can withstand the odd splash or two without breaking down.
  • They have more powerful engines (so that you can ride different terrains), but this also means that they can travel faster and also have a higher weight capacity. Usually up to 260lbs, although there’s one off road model that can carry up to 400lbs

So as you can see, an all-terrain board is more expensive, but is far superior in both build and functionality.

Where can I buy one?

Hoverboards are available pretty much everywhere online, and in quite a few offline shops as well. There are a few retailers however that that I would recommend, and that’s because they ONLY sell UL2272 certified all terrain hoverboards that are tested and proven to be fire safe. Even today, there are still sad stories from people whose self balancing scooters exploded or went on fire. Usually this is because they were made with shoddy, inferior materials and generic untested batteries. If a personal electric vehicle (like a hoverboard or scooter) doesn’t have this UL certification then they should NOT be used because they are untested and not guaranteed to be safe.

Amazon is one retailer that requires UL certication for all off road scooters sold on their marketplace. We like Amazon because they provide great customer service, and fast and free delivery. We also like to check out the user reviews on products before purchasing.

If Walmart is your online marketplace of choice, then you’ll also find that they sell UL certified hoverboards and are another good option.
